A Highly Rated Experience
We had an incredible time on the Polar Express train ride. It truly went above and beyond what I expected.
We arrived early and discovered a small park right next door, which was perfect for spending an hour before things got started. What I didn’t realize was that the station itself had plenty of activities while you wait to board—almost like a mini Christmas market. There were food and toy stalls, a charming gift shop, “Letters to Santa” stations, and plenty of tables where kids could sit, eat, and do some colouring.
About 20 minutes before boarding, a group of singers came out performing Christmas songs, which really set the festive mood. Then came the main event: boarding the train. As the Polar Express pulled in, holiday music played and the entertainers were out on the platform welcoming everyone. It was like stepping into the movie.
The ride itself lasts just over 30 minutes, and it’s packed with magic the entire time. The cast stayed in character throughout, serving cookies and hot chocolate, leading songs, and creating an unforgettable atmosphere. Each child also received a small gift from Santa himself.
It’s a truly heartwarming experience and I highly recommend it—whether you’re going with kids or just want to feel like one again.
From the moment we arrived at the Wensleydale Railway station, the atmosphere buzzed with festive wonder. The twinkling lights, cheerful staff, and the unmistakable sounds of Christmas classics set the stage for what became a truly unforgettable family adventure.
✨ Highlights of our journey:
- Golden Tickets & Grinning Faces: The children’s eyes lit up as they clutched their golden tickets, greeted by conductors straight out of a storybook – complete with crisp uniforms, warmth, and playful charm.
- Onboard Magic: Once aboard, we were swept into a world of storytelling, dancing chefs, and hot chocolate so velvety it practically deserved its own standing ovation.
- Santa’s Grand Entrance: The joy was palpable as the jolly man himself made an appearance, gifting every child a silver bell – just like in the classic tale – while taking time for photos and warm holiday wishes.
- Atmosphere & Immersion: From the beautifully decorated carriages to the animated performances, it felt like stepping straight into the pages of a book. Even us grown-ups couldn't resist singing along and soaking up the nostalgia.
💫 Why it mattered:
It wasn’t just about the train ride. It was the shared giggles, wide-eyed wonder, and those moments when belief and imagination blended seamlessly. For our family, it became a pocket of magic and something that lifted us out of the day-to-day and reminded us of the joy in togetherness.
Would we go again? In a heartbeat. Wensleydale’s Polar Express isn’t just a trip, it’s a memory in motion.
Me and my partner took our 3 children ages 15, 6 & 5. They all absolutely loved it!
It was so magical, fun, and an experience we will all never forget. They’ve not stopped talking about it and want to go again.
The wait for the train was so entertaining the entertainers singing was amazing and the shop was full with merchandise.
The outside part wasn’t that expensive, the kids loved to roast the marshmallows in the fire pit, which was safe for the children to do under supervision.
There was food and sweet stalls available, the toilets was very clean and immaculate.
The train pulling up to the station is where it all started, the conductor introduced himself and got the passengers ready to board the train with his famous words.
The train ride was enjoyable, fun, full of laughter and smiling kids faces, lights weren’t too much that changed colour.
The Santa visit was so real, he didn’t come with a fake beard he had a full grown beard, was so polite and entertaining, took his time with each child, stopped for photos and made conversation with them.
The story was magical, entertaining to watch and wasn’t just presented by 1 person they all made it fun and enjoyable to watch. Showing the kids the book and pictures pointing to what they was up to. The man from the roof of the train I believed to be a puppet until he came out and was moving I was in shock, he was amazing at what he did.
The hot chocolate and cookie, wasn’t no cheap stuff they was perfectly made and delicious, they even counted for any allergies and made sure they came out with the correct stuff. Every paying customer recieved a bell from Santa, and there tickets hold punched with the first letter of your name.
I would highly recommend this experience to anyone, even if you have no children it’s amazing for adults too!!
When you step onto the platform the snow and the music really make it magical not only for the children the adults too the staff aboard the train are amazing always in character so entertaining and magical if you haven’t been before it’s definitely worth a book you won’t be disappointed
Our silver bells are placed on our Xmas tree as soon as we get home.
It jump starts our Christmas season. Making us all feel festive. I love to see all the families all in same Christmas pjs, kids get very excited to go on the train and they always come home with a souvenir from the gift shop.
From the moment we arrived, the excitement built — the golden tickets, the dancing chefs, the hot chocolate, and of course, meeting Santa himself — it was all so wonderfully done. The train ride was just the right length for little ones, and the story was brought to life beautifully.
The kids haven’t stopped talking about it since. Highly recommended for families looking to make some festive memories!
Wow when the train came and the music was playing and steam blowing in the air it was emotional! My daughter was mesmerised and even I had tears as this was also my childhood when I was a young girl coming true in my adult life!
The train was beautiful inside and out, with Christmas decorations and moving lights inside that went together with the sounds and affects of the story they tell. The conductor reads aloud the story of The Polar Express and makes sure each child sees the photos and pages by walking down the aisle. The singers and caterers where amazing. All happy and smiling and making sure each child and adults were involved and loving life. The hot chocolate and cookie was delicious, they also made sure if we had an allergies. Then when Santa came through as we pulled in at the 'North Pole' it was beaitiful. A very *realistic* Santa that took the time with each and every child to speak to them 1 to 1 and get a photo aswell as the all important bell!!
Overall it was just the most magical, amazing experience which I think every parent should definitely book atleast once in their child's lifetime to witness such Christmas spirit. Everything was great from start to finish!
Following this it’s time to ride to the North Pole on the polar express!
This is where the magic truly begins, the chefs, the ghost and the conductor take you through the story book, interact with every single passenger nobody is left out throughout the journey. Then of course it wouldn’t be the Polar express without HOT HOT… yeah you got it, it’s hot chocolate time with a yummy scrummy cookie 🍪 ☕️
Next thing you know we’re at the North Pole, we experience the magic of Christmas and a special visitor may just pay you a visit & make sure you get the first gift of Christmas 🥹🔔🎅🏼.

We’ve adored both visits and fully intend to continue visiting. We’re a group aged 51, 33 & 18 now and will forever hold a special place in our hearts for this wonderful experience.
If you’re considering it DO IT I promise you won’t regret it! Photos are from Christmas 2024 ❤️
The excitement really builds as the steam train arrives, and the ride itself is both fun and interactive. The highlight, of course, was Santa's grand arrival — the kids (and adults!) were absolutely thrilled. On board, the hot chocolate and cookies were delicious, adding to the festive atmosphere. To top it all off, everyone gets a bell from Santa's sleigh and a golden ticket as keepsakes. I can’t recommend this experience enough — it’s truly magical!
The magic is more than just for the children, the adults will have a brill time joining in with the dancing and singing and they will be made to feel welcome just as much as the kids!!
I'd return every single year without a doubt despite the cost.
Staff are Incredible. They make you feel so welcome. From the coach drivers to the actors on board the train, its an incredible place the bring the children to experience the true magic of Christmas.
I left with tears streaming down my cheeks from the joy it brought my 4 year old. 5 days before the big day, I cannot wait to come back again next year!
